Distribution News & Two Clips From ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’

Since watching BLUE VALENTINE, all I’ve wanted is to see another collaboration between Ryan Gosling and the film’s director Derek Cianfrance. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, Cianfrance’s upcoming release, is currently having its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and news has come in that Focus Features have bought up the US distribution rights for the film.

Written and directed by Cianfrance, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES stars Gosling as Luke, a down-on-his-luck motorbike rider who takes the law into his own hands to be able to provide for his young child. However, police officer Avery (Bradley Cooper) has other ideas and is determined to take Luke down. As the two lock horns, their decisions end up affecting their families long after the battle ends. Co-starring Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Ray Liotta and Ben Mendelsohn, the film has been described as ‘bold’, ‘epic’ and full of ‘beautiful performances’.

Although this news might not mean much to us here in the UK, it does mean that the film is a little closer to its US general release (meaning its closer to its release over here). BLUE VALENTINE is my #1 favourite film, so I have high expectations for this one. I’m imagining (or rather, hoping) that its a mix of DRIVE and BLUE VALENTINE, mixing Gosling’s smoldering side with his emotional one. I’ll be counting down the days until its UK release in 2013.

We can also show you two brand new clips (see below), which definitely show-off both Gosling’s and Cooper’s acting credentials. Gritty tension, subtle cinematography and superb performances galore!

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
