TITANIC, the film whose name sets emotions to high (whether that be tears of joy or a deep-rooted hatred), has always been considered a ‘classic weapy’. While some can watch it repeatedly, others stay away from the film as if watching it may spread a new strain of influenza. While everyone has their own opinion, it hasn’t stopped James Cameron and his team from releasing the 1997 romantic disaster movie on Blu-ray and – not only that – in 3D!
If you don’t know by now, the story is based on the 1912 tragedy which saw the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sink, killing up to 1, 502 passengers. Winslet stars as the fictional 17 year-old Rose DeWitt Bukater, the classic beauty engaged to Zane’s chisel-faced monster, Cal Hockley. After one suicidal night, Rose (literally) crashes into Jack Dawson (DiCaprio), a down-on-his-luck pauper-type, sailing back to this home country. After some seemly innocent flirting, hand-holding, dancing (and a steamy evening in the back of a car?), Jack and Rose promise themselves to one another and decide that when the ship docks, they are going to run away together.
Now, this all seems a little sickly, doesn’t it? But what really makes TITANIC spectacular are Winslet and DiCaprio themselves. On-screen (and off-screen, which can see in behind-the-scenes photographs) the pair have sizzling chemistry, making Jack and Rose extremely believable (this chemistry obviously paid off as the two also starred alongside each other in REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, the 2008 drama directed by Sam Mendes). You also have to commend Cameron for his sheer determination in creating such a beautiful film, especially in terms of the special effects and details of the ship itself.
TITANIC’s 2-disc Blu-ray release sees a whole host of special features, including – for the first time – the film in high definition, two brand new documentaries, numerous deleted scenes, an alternate ending and 60 behind-the-scenes featurettes. Of course, you could also purchase the special Blu-ray 3D version, which includes all the special features mentioned above, but you get the added extra of almost feeling as if you’re there with the characters (I saw the 3D version at the cinema and believe me, the 3D effect of the water is quite unnerving).
As Celine Dion’s hit single states, ‘my heart will go on’. In this case, TITANIC will live on forever as a modern-day marvel. Why not own a little piece of film history in high definition?
TITANIC is released on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D from 10th September
Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging.
Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.

This is one of my all time favorite movies so I was incredibly excited when I heard they were re-releasing it in 3D. I was blown away when I saw it in theaters by the quality of the update. I was talking to a coworker at Dish about how amazing it was that they could change it to 3D, and he reminded me that James Cameron was behind Avatar. The 3D in the updated version rivals that of Avatar in my opinion. When I heard it was coming out on Blu-Ray I instantly went online and added it to my Blockbuster @Home queue. I love being able to rent 3D Blu-Ray’s to try them out because my older HDTV doesn’t work with some of the new ones. I am glad to say that I was able to watch this today, and I was blown away! It is the best movie watching experience I have ever had in my home.
