Cynthia Nixon To Portray Poet Emily Dickinson For New Biopic

I’ve recently become addicted to watching re-runs of the hit HBO series SEX AND THE CITY, so I’m already a massive fan of Cynthia Nixon aka Miranda Hobbes. Personally, I haven’t seen Nixon in anything but SATC, so this casting news is brilliant for me and other fans, alike.

Cynthia has apparently signed onto the biopic A QUIET PASSION, which will chronicle the life, career and sad death of American poet Emily Dickinson. British director Terence Davies (THE NEON BIBLE, THE DEEP BLUE SEA) wrote the screenplay with Nixon is mind, saying it was ‘the kind of dream casting you hope for. I never, for a moment, imagined my wishes would materialize’. As for Nixon herself, she’s said that while reading the script she became ‘consumed by the character’.

Dickinson led a very quiet, secretive life and during her ‘career’ saw only seven of her poems published (she wrote over 1,000). After her death in 1886 she became recognised as one of the greatest American poets. Nixon is a superb actress, so I’m more than certain she’ll bring the kind of grace that’s needed to portray Emily.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
