MGM Taking On Russian Sci-Fi ‘Metro 2033’

MGM Studios have picked up the rights to METRO 2033. Producer Mark Johnson, the man behind THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, is adapting the Russian Sci-Fi novel via his Gran Via Productions. F. Scott Frazier will be writing the screenplay based on a book by Dmitri Glukhovsky. The book sees a young survivor of a nuclear holocaust in Moscow 2033 having to deal with mutants, the Fourth Reich, and differing political factions. The book was originally first published online in Russian in 2002. Now it is a bestselling 10 book series, and the author is trying to franchise out the idea for other countries to write their own versions. It was first published in English in 2010 and also had a video game adaptation produced that year.

Sounds like a franchise starter, but the time Hollywood tried making a Russian set apocalyptic action film, we got THE DARKEST HOUR.
