As the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival closes, it looks as if we may have a potential Oscar-winner on our hands. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK (directed by David O. Russell) took the People’s Choice Award, crowning the film as one of the most successful out of the bunch.
Adapted from the novel written by Matthew Quick, Bradley Cooper stars as Pat Solitano, a unstable former teacher who moves back home to live with his parents (his father played by Robert De Niro). Thinking of settling down to a quiet, calm life, Pat is mistaken, as he befriends young widow Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence).
The film beat ARGO (directed by Ben Affleck) and THE IMPOSSIBLE into second and third place, respectively. With both Lawrence and De Niro as past Oscar nominees/winners, I really wouldn’t be surprised if the film was featured in the 2013 line-up.
This win makes me want to see it even more and luckily we don’t have long to wait, as SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is due for a UK release from 21st November!

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
