Guillermo Del Toro Developing TV Show Based On His Book ‘The Strain’

Guillermo Del Toro is obviously a workaholic, so luckily for him FX have ordered a pilot for an adaptation of his novel THE STRAIN. THE STRAIN is a vampire novel that sees a plane land at JFK airport before losing all communication. Once a SWAT team gets aboard they find over two hundred people dead and only four survivors. It isn’t along before the corpses of the dead start to go missing from morgues. The TV adaptation will have both co-authors, Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, writing the script, and LOST showrunner Carlton Cuse will be in charge. Del Toro will also direct the pilot.

I couldn’t care less about this adaptation as THE STRAIN is one of the worst books I have ever had the displeasure of reading. It started off well, but soon became one of the most generic and boring books in recent memory. It took me months to eventually crawl to the end, thanks to the bland characters, predictable twists and simply terrible dialogue between characters. I never entertained the thought of picking up the sequels. But then again, Del Toro did originally conceive the books as a TV show so perhaps it will have a more natural pace.
