Gus Van Sant has given us quite a number of outstanding films, where his directorial intelligence and unique ability to highlight real people in films including GOOD WILL HUNTING, MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO and MILK has earned him critical and public praise for many years. His new project PROMISED LAND, that stars Matt Damon, Frances McDormand and John Krasinski, is a very relevant modern-day story where big business and small-town communities cross-over.
Damon plays Steve Butler, a salesman for a natural gas corporation who wants to tap into the resources of a rural town. Whilst there, he meets the locals that include not only Krasinski but also Rosemarie DeWitt and Hal Holbrook and their real lives begin to change how he looks at the world he lives in. This looks fantastic and for all the right reasons, something I’m very excited to see once it arrives. In the meantime, check out the trailer and poster below:
PROMISED LAND is the screenplay co-written by Matt Damon and John Krasinski and based on a story by Dave Eggers. I think we’ll see this in the UK in early 2013.
