A biopic of the late Princess Of Wales, DIANA was always going to be a controversial project, bringing her under the microscope of the world’s media.
The last two years of the life of ‘England’s Rose’ and ‘The People’s Princess’ will be the focus of Oliver Hirschbiegel’s film, which is now in post-production. Naomi Watts will portray the tragic Royal (a late replacement after Jessica Chastain had to drop out) who after being dogged by the paparazzi all her life, was made to pay the ultimate price while avoiding their persistence on that fateful night in 1997.
This latest news from the project is almost ironic as Ecosse Films (who financed the flick) have struck an exclusive deal with both Splash News and Picture Agency to give their photographers access to the set for the best photo angles and shots of production. It is suggested that due to the high publicity around the film, in order to stop photographers flocking to the set, it was much easier to invite a select few and rendering others’ shots worthless.
A representative of Ecosse Films confirmed:
We knew we would have to deal with the situation, so we got out in front of it.
DIANA is expected to hit cinemas in August 2013 and will co-star Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Juliet Stevenson, Cas Anvar and Naveen Andrews.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
