Nicolas Cage Joins Richard Kelly’s ‘Amicus’

Writer/Director Richard Kelly is gearing up for his next film AMICUS, a courtroom based thriller which will star Nicolas Cage. AMICUS follows the true story of a man who hired a hitman to murder his family in an attempt to inherit their wealth. The case went went on for 25 years, as the hitman had used a ‘how to’ guide about killing, which prompted the family of the deceased to sue the book’s publisher. Cage will play an attorney for the victims’ family.

This means that Kelly’s reported follow-up to THE BOX (2009), CORPUS CHRISTI, is probably going to be shelved or just have to wait a while. AMICUS will be Kelly’s first film without a hint of science fiction, which should be very interesting to see. I loved THE BOX and DONNIE DARKO (2001), but I still have a sour taste in my mouth from SOUTHLAND TALES (2006). I wonder if AMICUS will be played straight or have hints of dark comedy.

His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
