Malick-Produced Early Lincoln Biopic ‘The Green Blade Rises’ Cast Hots Up

The old familiar saying of ‘like buses, you wait around for ages and two come along at once‘ could not be more apt than both the names in the above title. Legendary reclusive filmmaker Terence Malick has now written and directed more films in the last three years then the previous 4 decades since he began in 1973 with sweeping crime thriller BADLANDS, the film based on the real-life 50s killer couple Charles Starkweather and Caril Anne Fugate.

With this forthcoming project, Malick will produce his recent regular collaborator A.J. Edwards’ directorial debut THE GREEN BLADE RISES. The film will chart the early childhood of 16th US President Abraham Lincoln, who has found to be the focus of a number of features this year with enjoyable horror/history mash-up ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER and Spielberg’s upcoming all-star epic LINCOLN, headlined by Daniel Day Lewis.

The first casting news has been announced with Diane Kruger (NATIONAL TREASURE) and Jason Clarke (LAWLESS) set for roles as the youngsters’ step-mother and father respectively, Sarah and Tom Lincoln. Also, rising indie darling Brit Marling (ANOTHER EARTH) will take the role of his biological mother Nancy and Wes Bentley (THE HUNGER GAMES) will portray the future icons first teacher. We’ll keep you posted on any further developments.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
