Dylan Moran Joins John Michael McDonagh’s ‘Calvary’

John Michael McDonagh’s upcoming film CALVARY already boasts a superb ensemble of Irish talent, including Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd and Aiden Gillen no less, and now another of Ireland’s finest has been added to the cast in the shape of grumpy funny-man Dylan Moran. CALVARY is McDonagh’s second film which will follow in the very well-received footsteps of his debut THE GUARD, also featuring Gleeson in a central role.

Here’s what John Michael McDonagh had to say about his upcoming film;

It is with great excitement, bordering on tumescence, that I am looking forward to collaborating once more with Ireland’s greatest actor, Brendan Gleeson, and working with the finest ensemble cast ever assembled in the history of Irish cinema.

Similar to THE GUARD, CALVARY is very much a black comedy-drama, this time telling the tale of Father James Lavelle (Gleeson), a good-natured priest who is continually disheartened by his spiteful townsfolk. When his life is threatened one night, he is forced into battle with the dark forces that surround him.

The BLACK BOOKS star also joins Kelly Reilly, Isaach de Bankholé, Domhnall Gleeson and FATHER TED’s resident nutter Pat Shortt. CALVARY began filming this week in Sligo in Western Ireland, and is due for release in 2013.

In the mean time why not check out the Christopher Walken headed SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS, the latest film from IN BRUGES writer/director (and John’s brother) Martin McDonagh.
