Paramount have unveiled plans to build a theme park based on the studio’s most famous films. The studio, which is currently celebrating its 100th year, will spend around £2 billion erecting the venue at the Swanscome Peninsula which is roughly a 17 minute train journey away from central London. Twice the size of the Olympic Park, the space stretches for 872- acres and will create over 27,000 jobs.
The project is also expected to include Europe’s largest indoor water park, cinemas, restaurants, and hotels. Rides and attractions are yet to be announced but would likely involve Paramount’s hottest properties such as MISSION: IMPOSIBLE, TRANSFORMERS, and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. Hey, they gave SAW a ride. The company is reportedly ‘going through the creative process of arriving at the most compelling attractions.’
Paramount have also expressed plans to include a similar theme park in Spain, and a STAR TREK themed resort in Jordan. If green-lit, the London-based project could be open for business in 2018. Tony Sefton, the project’s leader, stated:
‘Over the next 12-18 months we will be progressing the planning application while embarking on a wide-reaching programme of community consultation, and securing further commercial agreements with third parties. Our vision is to create a world-class entertainment destination, the first of its kind in the UK.’
