The previous trailer wowed us all with its cool aesthetic and visual flair (check it out here), and this one is even more enjoyable. Look out for Sean Penn paraphrasing Batman and Al Capone. Hold on to your clothes after enjoying Ryan Gosling. And Emma Stone. Just… Emma Stone. As the backing vocals in the trailer sing, ‘Good lord!’
You may notice one of the key moments from the original trailer has gone, namely the sequence which sees a mob shooting up a cinema audience through the screen. This has been specifically omitted from all promotional material due to the shooting in Aurora and may even be cut from the film entirely. The necessity for re-filming means the movie may have its release date pushed back to early next year.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
GANGSTER SQUAD is directed by Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND, 30 MINUTES OR LESS). This will be his first feature without Jesse Eisenberg and his second outing with Stone. It is now slated for release in early 2013.
John is a gentleman, a scholar, he’s an acrobat. He is one half of the comedy duo Good Ol’ JR, and considers himself a comedy writer/performer. This view has been questioned by others. He graduated with First Class Honours in Media Arts/Film & TV, a fact he will remain smug about long after everyone has stopped caring. He enjoys movies, theatre, live comedy and writing with the JR member and hetero life partner Ryan. Some of their sketches can be seen on YouTube and YOU can take their total hits to way over 17!
