Christoph Waltz Joins ‘Reykjavik’ As Gorbachev

DONNIE BRASCO and FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL director Mike Newell looks to have found his co-lead for upcoming Cold-War biopic REYKJAVIK. INGLORIOUS BASTARDS Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz is now confirmed to slap on a bit of ketchup to play the former Soviet Union chief Mikhail Gorbachev. Waltz will appear alongside acting legend and fellow Oscar-winner Michael Douglas, who was cast a few weeks ago as former US president Ronald Reagan, in Newell’s take on the sweaty, paranoia-fuelled tensions surrounding the peace deal between the two heads of state in the Icelandic capital in 1986.

Shooting is expected to commence on REYKJAVIK later this year while both Douglas and Waltz have a number of intriguing projects in the pipeline. First up for Waltz is another Tarantino team-up, DJANGO UNCHAINED and Terry Gilliam’s sci-fi drama THE ZERO THEOREM, while Douglas has HBO biopic of Liberace BEHIND THE CANDELABRA and all-star comedy LAST VEGAS opposite Morgan Freeman, Robert DeNiro and Kevin Kline.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
