Like most notorious cult classic horror/thrillers, Meir Zarchi’s I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE underwent it’s own controversial remake in 2010. Despite the originals gritty and shocking plot, the 1978 effort was a film that I could never take seriously due to some dire acting and dialogue. Still, it was one that dared to push boundaries and Steven R. Monroe’s remake was surprisingly satisfying with some ingenious blood-soaked set-pieces. Yes, it had to depict some harrowing rape scenes but the end result was ultimately a more gore-some and dare I say, enjoyable film that deserved a damn sight better than the bottom shelf of Blockbuster.
A sequel to Monroe’s rape-revenger has recently been announced with SAW IV’s Thomas Fenton due to pen the script. Now we can confirm that Monroe will be back in charge of the follow-up that will see an all-new character named Holly undergo her own traumatic transformation from victim to vengeance-seeking heroine. Beginning as Missouri farm girl who visits New York with dreams of a possible modelling career, Holly meets three brothers who take brutal advantage. After burying her alive and fleeing to another country, those survival instincts kick in, subsequently escaping and tracking them down to exact her violent revenge.
We’ll keep you up-to-date with potential casting news with shooting due to begin next month in Bulgaria.
