Last night saw the opening of the the Hollywood Costume exhibition at the V&A and all the big names were there to enjoy a very special opening dinner. Unfortunately, THN’s invite got lost in the post but the V&A still celebrated the opening and played host to guests from across the film industry at a black tie dinner, sponsored by Harry Winston. Sir Paul Ruddock, Chairman of the V&A, Frédéric de Narp, Chief Executive Officer and President of Harry Winston Inc., exhibition curators Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis and Professor Sir Christopher Frayling walked the red carpet along Cromwell Road with film guests including directors Tim Burton and John Landis, as well as actors Helena Bonham Carter CBE, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Michelle Rodriguez. Also attending was Colleen Atwood, Barbara Broccoli OBE, Sofia Coppola, Anjelica Huston, Dame Helen Mirren, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sandy Powell OBE, Vanessa Redgrave and Harvey Weinstein.
Entering the Grand Entrance, guests followed the red carpet to the Dome, where they were served Piper Heidseck champagne and Stoclichnaya cocktails. The red carpet continued through the Museum, leading guests to the exhibition. En route guests encountered movie-inspired vignettes featuring models wearing iconic pieces of Harry Winston jewellery. Guests enjoyed a private view of Hollywood Costume before it opens to the public this weekend. The huge array of costumes includes: Dorothy’s original Ruby Slippers from the WIZARD OF OZ, THE DARK KNIGHT’s Batsuit, INDIANA JONES’ hat and whip, Holly Golightly’s little black dress and Bond’s suit as worn by Daniel Craig. To accompany HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, Harry Winston has specially recreated the necklace Kate Hudson wore – the only piece of fine jewellery in the exhibition. This was followed by dinner in the Museum’s magnificent Raphael Gallery.
