Besson’s ‘Malavita’ Gets A Release Date

Over the last few months, we’ve been reporting on Luc Bessons’ (THE FIFTH ELEMENT) upcoming project MALAVITA. Although it seemed to have a fully-functioning plot and a brilliant cast, we’d been wondering if we’d ever see news on a release date. However, we can now confirm that the film will be released this time next year, October 2013 (in the US, at least!).

Based on the novel Badfellas, written by the award-winning French author Tonino Benacquista, the film follows the Manzoni family, who move to France under the witness protection programme. Apparently you can take the gangster out of America, but in this case you can’t teach an old gangster family new tricks, and they soon revert to their old ways. Relativity Media president (of distribution) Kyle Davis has said that Besson ‘has pulled together a fantastic cast in MALAVITA in what promises to be an action-packed and humorous film’.

Featuring Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dianna Agron and John D’Leo, the film will open in the same time slot (in 2013) that has blasted TAKEN 2 to the top of box-office lists.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
