LIFE OF PI is the upcoming adaptation of the insanely popular novel of the same name from author Yann Martel. Ang Lee directs the story of a boy trapped on a lifeboat with a number of animals, most notably Richard Parker, a tiger. The following gorgeous scene shows Pi and Richard on their lifeboat, when they suddenly come across a group of flying fish and Pi is asserts his dominance over the tiger by claiming the biggest fish. The scene plays out wonderfully, as it is first funny and confusing as Pi is slapped in the face by a fish that appears from nowhere before it ‘flies’ off leaving both Pi and Richard a bit confused.
The CG used for Richard Parker is gorgeous and the tiger has a real sense of character. I hope they release needless merchandise so I can buy my own Richard Parker plush novelty. The film has also released a behind the scenes featurette recently, as well as some amazing trailers.
LIFE OF PI is released in the UK 21st December 2012. It stars Suraj Sharma, Rafe Spall, Irrfan Khan, and Gérard Depardieu.
