Is Mark Wahlberg Going To Be In ‘Transformers 4’?

This news is being put firmly in both the ‘Wait – WHAT?’ and the ‘I’ll believe it when it happens’ piles, however recent reports are linking Mark Wahlberg to a starring role in Michael Bay’s upcoming TRANSFORMERS 4. Wahlberg, who is starring in Bay’s upcoming bodybuilder film, PAIN & GAIN, has apparently been in secret talks with the director to star in the next entry of the multi billion dollar franchise, but nothing is of course confirmed yet. Since the story broke, Michael Bay himself has taken to his website to comment on the rumours:

The Mark Wahlberg T4 rumor is just a rumor. Mark and I are talking about another film project. -Michael

While you can argue that this statement, coupled with the recent rumours of a female lead, would appear to squash these rumours, it is worth mentioning that this was the same Michael Bay who said that TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON would be his last entry in the series. The reason I’m a bit sceptic about the news is therefore not because of Bay’s denials, but more because it would be such an odd choice for such a big star and great actor to star in a franchise that they’ve had nothing to do with from the beginning. Mark Wahlberg has fought for years to get recognition for his talent (and to shed the shadow that is Marky Mark) and I just can’t see him choose to star in something like this. I guess we will just have to wait and see whether he’ll be outrunning explosions and giant robots in the near future or not.
