While I may not agree with Wally Pfister’s recent comments concerning THE AVENGERS, his work as a cinematographer on Christopher Nolan’s films has been amazing and his directorial debut, TRANSCENDENCE, does sound like it could be really interesting. The details are still sparse at this point; all we know is that it is a ‘present day science fiction film’ and that it has a fairly big budget. Now we might have confirmed the second part, as Johnny Depp is reportedly in negotiations to star in the film. It’s scheduled for an early 2013 shoot and with Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas executive producing. The script is written by newcomer Jack Paglen, but while we don’t know much about his writing capabilities the film is certainly starting to attract some heavyweight talent. I always enjoy it when Depp works with new people (some of his Tim Burton collaborations are a bit stale). Hopefully this one will be a winner.
