Matthew Vaughn eXits ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’

In a shock development, it reported that Matthew Vaughn is stepping down as director of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS sequel X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. This is a bit of a shock as Vaughn turned down the chance to direct the sequel to his other superhero hyphenated hit, KICK-ASS 2. However, Vaughn has walked out on X-Men before as he was originally set to direct X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. Fox will need to move at the speed of Quiksilver if they wish to meet their 18th July 2014 release date, and also keep to their shooting schedule considering the juggling that needs to be done to keep Jennifer Lawrence in both this franchise and THE HUNGER GAMES. It is being suggested that X-MEN and X2 director Bryan Singer may jump into the directing chair, but nothing is definite yet. It would make sense as he is already a producer in the project.

We have no reason for Vaughn’s reported departure as yet, but it could be for a multiple of reasons. I think it’s a shame that Vaughn has left the franchise for a second time, but in hindsight, he was right to bail on X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. Let’s hope this isn’t such a dog of a film. Especially since THE WOLVERINE is looking better and better every day. Vaughn will stay on as producer and is attached to other Fox projects, so we can assume it is an amicable split.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be released 18th July 2014. It stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence.
