New Zealand are certainly not ashamed to show how proud they are with their association to THE LORD OF THE RINGS franchise as they’ve recently added a gigantic Gollum to Wellington Airport.
The giant Gollum, designed by Weta, found itself hooked up at the New Zealand airport earlier this week to help promote the first of Peter Jackson’s installments in the new Hobbit trilogy – THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, which lands in cinemas in just a few months. The massive art piece depicts Gollum sticking his head underwater grabbing for fish. The piece reminds many of a memorable LORD OF THE RINGS moment in THE TWO TOWERS where Gollum, or Smeagol, is fishing in the forbidden pool singing ‘Our only wish to catch a fish so juicy sweet!‘ It’s quite a sight to be greeted by when you touch down in Wellington airport that’s for sure!
THE HOBBIT, set 60 years before Tolkien’s original trilogy, is the story about Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, who finds himself caught up in a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor which was long ago taken over by the dragon Smaug.
THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY will come to cinemas on December 14th.
