Around a week ago, we brought you news that THE GREY and WARRIOR’s scene-stealer Frank Grillo was being eyed for a significant role in Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA sequel, THE WINTER SOLDIER. He tweeted that he’d been asked to read for the part of villain Crossbones and was waiting to see where things went from there. Well, we can now confirm the part is indeed Grillo’s and he’ll portray the Red Skull protege Crossbones in the comic-book sequel set to roll before cameras early next year.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will see Chris Evans’ genetically-modified super soldier come up against former friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), soon to be defrosted and reanimated as a fellow bad-ass by Grillo’s character. The superhero sequel will also feature THE AVENGERS co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders. Also set to join the cast in the film being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, is Anthony Mackie, Josh Holloway and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will be the third of Marvel’s ‘Phase II’ slate of films behind IRON MAN 3 and THOR: THE DARK WORLD and will hit cinemas 4th April 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
