Wahlberg Circling US Remake Of ‘Point Blank’

Always an actor I’ve enjoyed watching – MAX PAYNE aside – Mark Wahlberg and his Leverage Productions are working alongside Working Title Films on developing a US remake to Fred Cavayé’s French action-thriller POINT BLANK.

Wahlberg is hoping to do something similar as he did with international hit REYKJAVIK-ROTTERDAM, when he produced and starred in the surprisingly satisfying all-star remake CONTRABAND, although no word yet if he’ll headline the film.

Cavaye’s film, shot in 2010, sees Gilles Lellouche’s Samuel Pierret male nurse unknowingly save the life of a mobster (Roschdy Zem), whose brutal henchmen later take Samuel’s pregnant wife (Elena Anaya) hostage, forcing him to spring their boss from the hospital. A fast-paced race through the subways and streets of Paris ensues, as Samuel attempts to escape the cops and the criminal underground and rescue his beloved and their unborn child.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
