As is now tradition here on THN (well we started it last week) each Monday sees us celebrate/commiserate the newest home entertainment releases, and we’ve got some beauties for you this week:
SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD (DVD/Blu-Ray) – dir. Lorene Scafaria
Welcomed warmly on cinema its release, SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD holds even more charm on the small screen, we loved it ‘SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD is bloody brilliant: warm, full of love, and with the ability to make a grown man cry’
As an asteroid nears Earth, a man finds himself alone after his wife leaves in a panic. He decides to take a road trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart. Accompanying him is a neighbor who inadvertently puts a wrench in his plan.

KATY PERRY: PART OF ME (DVD/Blu-RAY) – dir. Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz
No matter what you think of her Katy Perry is pretty big right now – as the kids say. Attempting to seem hip we had a watch of PART OF ME and were pleasantly surprised ‘it’s hard not to enjoy PART OF ME. Perry’s group puts everything it has on stage almost every night for a year’

MEN IN BLACK 3 (DVD/Blu-Ray) – dir. Barry Sonnenfeld
The second instalment may have been a bit of a disappointment but 10 years on the team are back together, with Josh Brolin along for the ride. THN found surprising enjoyment ‘with Smith on good form centre stage and Brolin on the edges of brilliance, MEN IN BLACK 3 is a strangely gratifying affair’
Agent J travels in time to MIB’s early years in the 1960s, to stop an alien from assassinating his friend Agent K and changing history.

KILLER JOE (DVD/Blu-Ray) – dir. William Friedkin
The director of THE EXORCIST crafts a story described by our man Dan as ‘KILLER JOE is a calculated, warped and brutally violent take on a family crisis’. Matthew McConaughey gives a career making performance and ensures the next script he receives won’t be another rom-com!
When a debt puts a young man’s life in danger, he turns to putting a hit out on his evil mother in order to collect the insurance.
PETER PAN (DVD/Blu-Ray) – dir. Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske
Another month, another Disney animated classic is released. It may not hold up as well as others, but it is still well worth a look: ‘the kids will lap it up – like Peter himself, it’s perhaps never grown up’
Wendy and her brothers are whisked away to the magical world of Neverland with the hero of their stories, Peter Pan.
A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR CHRISTMAS (DVD/Blu-Ray) – dir. Todd Strauss-Scholsen
It won’t appeal to all, but there are things to like about A VERY HAROLD AND KUMAR CHRISTMAS ‘hard to dislike A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR CHRISTMAS because it does exactly what it aims to’
Six years after their Guantanamo Bay adventure, stoner buds Harold Lee and Kumar Patel cause a holiday fracas by inadvertently burning down Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree.

Sam is a bloody lovely lad born and raised in Bristol (he’s still there and can’t escape). Favourite films include THE LOST BOYS, DRIVE, FIGHT CLUB and COMMANDO, well pretty much any 1980s Arnie film you can throw his way…even RED SONJA. Sam once cancelled a Total Film subscription after they slagged off Teen Wolf. He resubscribed 2 days later.
