New ‘Transformers 4’ Details Emerge

I’m ashamed to say I’m one of the few THN contributors that likes Michael Bay films. Not all I must add, but what action enthusiast doesn’t love THE ROCK and ARMAGEDDON. Hell, I even loved his much maligned THE ISLAND and first TRANSFORMERS film (although the latter duo possibly due to all those lingering pervy shots of Megan Fox and Scarlett Johansson). Yes, his films are often absurd and cringeworthy but the guy knows how to drop jaws.

Having said that, the prospect of another TRANSFORMERS film doesn’t fill me with joy. This considering REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and DARK OF THE MOON are quite possibly the only films that could look both spectacular and sleep-inducing at the same time and one of the few times I’ve came out of cinemas with a thumping headaches (although this years dreadful TOTAL RECALL remake had the same effect).

This week we brought news that his TRANFORMERS 4 had cast the always likeable Mark Wahlberg as its lead (as well as the official logo). This was apparently the fault of the ‘internet’ mistakingly taking a quote from Bay regarding a future project with Marky Mark and associating it with TRANFORMERS 4. Well, he’s stolen your idea guys and ran with it. Bay has been quick to follow that announcement, with this little nugget of info regarding the fourth film in the franchise:

The movie is going to continue four years from the attack on Chicago, which was in the last movie. It’s going to have the same lineage, but it’s going in a full new direction. It actually feels very natural how it’s going in that direction… We’re doing a lot of things that are really going to make it fresh and feel new.

TRANSFORMERS 4, fours years later! Here’s hoping it aint four times the fricking headache with more bloody struggles to make out which bot is battling which. Optimus Prime and Megatron? I’m thinking more optimum paracetamol and cold compress.

Bay and Wahlberg will first be seen in true-crime comedy PAIN OR GAIN co-starring Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie, Ed Harris, Rebel Wilson, Rob Corddry, along with scene-ruining fluckwit Ken Jeong and lands in cinemas 3rd May 2013 for UK moviegoers but an earlier date of 26th April for our American friends.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
