Christopher McQuarrie Set For ‘Mission: Impossible 5’

Tom Cruise may get a host of strange looks and comments for his involvement with Scientology, but I’m a huge admirer of the all-smiling superstar. Being an ambassador for the controversial cult/religion never seems to hurt his box-office numbers and whether a project is good or bad, he always gives his all.

His latest upcoming effort will see him portray Lee Child’s heroic military investigator JACK REACHER, in what is hoped will be the beginning of a new franchise. The film, released 21st December in the US and the UK on the 26th December, is written and directed by Oscar-winner Christopher McQuarrie and it appears Cruise is eager for a quick re-team.

McQuarrie is now expected to helm the fifth effort in Cruise-produced and led MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE action-franchise, based on Bruce Gellar’s cult television show. The last effort, MISSION: IMPOSSSIBLE – GHOST PROTCOL, directed by Brad Bird, was the most successful in the franchise leaving Paramount eager to jump straight back into production. In keeping in tradition with a new director for each entry, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 looks to have found its new chief. If McQuarrie commits, I think it’s also safe to say he’ll also adapt the screenplay.

We’ll await confirmation from the studio…

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
