We’ve just received the news that STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION – Season 2 is set to be released in stunning remastered high-definition on Blu-ray on December 10th 2012 and it can be pre-ordered now!
In what is a seminal season for the franchise – it is the first time The Borg are introduced and the Season features classic ‘Borg episode’, Q Who? – the second series of The Next Generation also includes the beginning of Whoopi Goldberg’s notable recurring role, and the introduction of Diana Muldaur as the new ship’s doctor as Jean Luc-Picard and his crew continue their journey through deep space.
The very interesting thing is that this is a Region Free release, which is rather wonderful for Trekkies and fans alike thanks to CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution. This set also has a specific exclusivity and collectability element, as the Blu-ray release has an HD, “Extended Cut” of “The Measure of a Man,” which includes deleted scenes and different angles from the broadcast version. The original version of the episode is included, as well as a “Hybrid Extended Cut,” combining the high-definition on-air version of “The Measure of a Man” with video of the extra material taken from an early VHS rough-cut of the episode that was in the writer’s (Melinda Snodgrass) archives.
