‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Opening To Be Shown Before ‘The Hobbit’ In IMAX

Christopher Nolan did it with both THE DARK KNIGHT and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES to great success and now it appears that JJ Abrams will follow suit as it has been revealed that the opening 9 minutes of the upcoming STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS will screen before THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY in IMAX theatres. Abrams have shot several sequences with IMAX cameras and IMAX Filmed Entertainment president Greg Foster said:

‘Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park, the footage is absolutely incredible’.

As if I really needed another reason to go and see THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY in IMAX, this is very exciting though. I thought JJ Abrams did an extraordinaty job on the first STAR TREK and I’m very excited to see what he has up in his sleeve this time around…my guess is lens flares…lots and lots of lens flares.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is directed by Peter Jackson. It stars Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, and Richard Armitage. It will open in UK cinemas on 13th December 2012 with the US release on the following day, 14th December 2012.
