Singer Confirms His Cast For ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ – Stewart & McKellen Are Back!

With Matthew Vaughn’s recent announcement that he was departing the sequel to his excellent mutant prequel X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, a quick replacement was found in the original director Bryan Singer. Notoriously dropped for X-MEN: THE LAST STAND due to Fox chiefs not willing to wait until he finished SUPERMAN RETURNS, Singer will return to the comic-book franchise for the first time since the acclaimed X2 (although he was brought back to produce Vaughn’s effort).

The director, who shot to fame with Oscar-winning crime-classic THE USUAL SUSPECTS, has now announced his cast for follow-up X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. With time-travel expected to form the major plot based on the fan favourite Marvel arc, many wondered if Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart would reprise their roles of Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr, better known as Professor X and Magneto.

Well now Singer has indeed confirmed the two thespian Knights will feature in his return to the superhero series alongside returnees James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicolas Hoult (who also headlines Singer’s forthcoming fairytale/fantasy, JACK THE GIANT KILLER).

Are you pleased the impressive cast are back for the sequel as well as Stewart and McKellen. Let us know!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
