Following 2012’s hugely successful and popular shows, Disney’s FANTASIA: Live in Concert has been confirmed to return to the grand Hall for the whole family to enjoy on Saturday 16th November 2013 due to phenomenal demand, and with brand new content!
Disney shared one of its crown jewels of feature animation showcasing selections from Walt Disney’s original 1940 FANTASIA and Disney’s FANTASIA 2000 including Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite and, performed and screened simultaneously for the first time in the UK, Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours, the great ballet of hippos, elephants, ostriches, and alligators. Other iconic moments from Disney’s stunning footage, such as Mickey Mouse as he dabbles in magic in Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and the mythical unicorns and winged horses that accompany Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony, will also be shown in HD on the big screen. With live underscore by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, and conducted by Ludwig Wicki, it’s another chance to relive this timeless classic for a truly unique cinematic experience in the majestic setting of the Royal Albert Hall. Jasper Hope, Chief Operating Officer at the Royal Albert Hall, said:
“We are delighted to welcome back these live orchestral performances of Disney’s Fantasia at the Royal Albert Hall following our two sell-out shows in 2012. As these popular concerts demonstrated, even over 70 years since its original release, Disney’s stunning visuals and Stokowski’s timeless soundtrack continue to be treasured by audiences of all ages. It is a pleasure to be able to present this unforgettable cinematic experience again to an entirely new generation on the world’s most famous stage”
Walt Disney once said of the film:
“Fantasia is timeless. It may run ten, twenty, thirty years. Fantasia is an idea in itself. I can never build another. I can improve. I can elaborate. That is all”
Disney’s Jonathan Heely, Executive Producer of the program added:
“Now 73 years later, these live performances of Fantasia are a way we can honor Mr. Disney’s vision while introducing new patrons young and old to the concert hall with the inspiring sounds of the symphony orchestra.”
Disney’s FANTASIA is the latest film to be promoted by the Hall with a live orchestra as part of its extensive public benefit remit. It follows the successful sold out performances of THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY, THE MATRIX, WEST SIDE STORY and will follow the European premiere of the 60th birthday celebrations of SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN in March.
