Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Backs Out On ‘Highlander’ Remake!

The Can Be Only One‘, proclaimed Christopher Lambert’s immortal head-lopping hero Connor McLeod in Russell Mulcahy’s 1986 actioner HIGHLANDER (probably best known for Queen’s memorable soundtrack as well as that rubbish television spin-off series). Well, INTRUDERS director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has said about the remake, ‘It ain’t gonna be me’ and has now officially vacated the project citing that old chestnut ‘creative differences’.

Fresnadillo has been guiding the film to production since he was confirmed very early in the year. Ryan Reynolds, who only came on board to play sword-swinging McLeod recently, is still set for the aforementioned lead. There’s no word yet on who will be taking over but with FAST & FURIOUS frequenter Justin Lin serving as an executive-producer and work almost complete on the sixth in the series, don’t be surprised to see him rescue the project for Summit Entertainment.

Are there any other names fans of Gregory Widen’s characters would like to see at the helm? Give us your thoughts…

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
