‘Amour’ Wins Big At European Film Awards

Michael Haneke’s AMOUR is still taking the film world by storm, it picked up four awards at the 25th European Film Awards held on December 1st.

The film, about an elderly couple who’s love is tested when one of has a stroke, picked up gongs for best actress, best actor, best director and the top award of the night, best film. When picking up best director, Haneke spoke in Austrian, and thanked his wife, the main actors and the producers of the film. Minutes later, picking up the award for best film, he thanked everyone again and admitting he did not expect to be up again so fast.

Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva picked up best actor and actress awards for their role as the married couple in AMOUR.

Other winners of the night included ALOIS NOBEL, which won best animated feature film and WINTER NOMADS, which won best documentary. The Brits did not leave empty handed, Helen Mirren was presented with a special award for her contribution to world cinema, which was presented by Michael Gambon.
