While the epic LORD OF THE RINGS films remain an acquired taste amongst the towers of THN, there is no doubt the upcoming HOBBIT trilogy is a welcome return for fans of Middle-earth around the globe. We don’t have much longer to wait before the adventure begins with THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, which has a 13th December release. The film will see Ian Holm’s Bilbo Baggins give his account of the early exploits (played by Martin Freeman as a younger man) when picked for a dangerous mission to help a band of dwarves defeat talking fire-breathing dragon Smaug.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
