Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to his well received comic-book adaptation SIN CITY is picking up the pace, and it has been announced that Dennis Haysbert of 24 fame will be taking over the role of Manute. Michael Clarke Duncan, who played Manutein the original, sadly passed away in September of this year. Manute was the golden-eyed henchman who loved dishing out some pain. Speaking about the casting, director Robert Rodriguez had this to say:
Manute is a character that has been part of the heart of the SIN CITY tales and the late Michael Clarke Duncan beautifully established that role on screen. We could not tell the story of SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR without Manute and are thrilled to welcome Dennis Haysbert to the cast.
Haysbert certainly has the voice for the part. After all, both Michael Clarke Duncan and Haysbert have voiced the character of Kilowog. Duncan in the GREEN LANTERN film and Haysbert in the JUSTICE LEAGUE animated series. But I’m unsure as to whether he has the physical presence. Then again, who could possibly match Duncan in that department? SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR will continue shooting in Austin through December.
SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is released 4th October 2013. It will star Jamie Chung, Jaime King, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, and Dennis Haysbert.
