Becky Johnston Rewriting ‘Salt’ Sequel

Hollywood is always trying to give us strong female characters to rival Bourne and Bond. Earlier this year there was the closest thing to a success in the brutally fun HAYWIRE. Last year there was COLUMBIANA (2011) and the year before we had SALT (2010). It now appears that the gestating SALT sequel is very much alive as Columbia Pictures have hired Becky Johnston to rewrite the script. She will be rewriting the original screenplay from Kurt Wimmer, a script that Angelina Jolie was apparently not too keen on.

Johnston is known for PRINCE OF TIDES (1991) and SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET (1997), as well as he PRINCE ‘classic’ UNDER THE CHERRY MOON (1986). She certainly isn’t the obvious choice to script an action feature, but perhaps Wimmer’s effort had all the action in the right place, and just needed that something more. Wimmer is responsible for the screenplays to SALT (2010), TOTAL RECALL (2011), and EQUILIBRIUM (2002). SALT wasn’t exactly a sequel worthy film in my opinion, but I can see that it’s a franchise that may have a solid future.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
