Will You Go A Little Mad For This First Look At ‘Bates Motel’ Series?

Bringing the conflicted character of Norman Bates back for a contemporary series looking at the rise of a cross-dressing nut job, may seem a touch risky after Hitchcock’s 60s masterpiece PSYCHO. After all, Gus Van Sant’s shot-for-shot remake is much-maligned and laughed off amongst many genre fans. Still, from the first look of this footage, we could have fascinating new series showing the slow decent of Norman’s fragile mind when he and his mother relocate to a new town and open the infamous family business.

Freddie Highmore takes the role of troubled Norman, alongside the always-watchable Vera Farmiga as devoted mother Norma. The series also stars Nestor Carbonell, Max Thieriot, Jere Burns, Olivia Cooke and Mike Vogel. BATES MOTEL will premiere on US network A&E in March 2013. No word yet on where or when we here in the UK will see it.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
