Rising star Josh Hutcherson’s mixed year has been more hit than miss. That is largely down to the success of THE HUNGER GAMES, which saw the film, based on Suzanne Collins’ novel, dominate the box-office during March and April. The less said about JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and dire headfuck horror/comedy DETENTION, the better. Now it appears Hutcherson will co-star alongside the superb Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro in the recently announced tale of Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar and the niece who falls for a Californian surfer, titled PARADISE LOST.

The story, based on true events, is the directorial debut of Andrea di Stefano. The first-time director also provides the screenplay, which centres on the young beach-bum who falls for a girl named Maria, only to find her uncle is the notorious narcotics kingpin. Del Toro is already lined up as Escobar with Hutcherson now confirmed as the smitten surfer.

Shooting is set to begin in March with a release expected early 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
