We all know that some Trekkies absolutely love STAR TREK (duh!) and can’t wait for the next film installment: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, directed by J.J. Abrams. Now it also seems as if Abrams loves his fans just as much, as news has surfaced that he screened the entire film for a dying fan.
Just over a week ago, a Reddit user posted the story about his friend Dan, who was recently diagnosed with two forms of cancer. Dan and his wife went along to view THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, hoping to see the STAR TREK… prologue beforehand; however, the teaser wasn’t played before their screening. After returning home disappointed, Dan’s story emerged online and Abrams took it upon himself to screen the ENTIRE film for the couple. Here’s what Dan’s wife posted afterwards:
‘Hi everyone, it’s Daniel’s wife, we are of course sworn to secrecy, BUT we are officially allowed to say we saw it and we enjoyed it IMMENSELY as a film and as a gesture…We were so touched when [Abrams] was concerned that we wouldn’t 100% enjoy the screening as it’s still being worked on…Be assured we enjoyed it 110%!..This is a story of us giving something to him [Dan], the ‘internet’ community giving something to him and ultimately being a heartwarming gift to our friends, family and so many others. This story of us (and of course J.J. Abrams & Bad Robot) being able to give this surprise gift of a screening to a huge movie buff like Daniel, especially a film made by a film maker who obviously makes movies with such care, with a fan like Daniel in mind.’
What a truly lovely gesture. Best wishes to Dan and his family, from everyone here at THN!
