Lots of discussion recently on the GODZILLA reboot scheduled for 2014, and that my friends is incredibly exciting. The big news concerns the lead role…well…the lead human role at least, unless of course the following actors will be donning the suit originally worn by Haruo Nakajima. Although we can pretty much confirm it will be a CGI Godzilla and a human lead. A list of actors being considered has recently come to light, but one of those names, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has already passed on the chance of a lifetime. The three names left are Superman himself Henry Cavill, Scoot McNairy, and Caleb Landry Jones. Interestingly enough, Gordon-Levitt and Cavill were listed as “studio choices” and McNairy and Jones were categorised as “creative choices”. So it wouldn’t be too much to assume that Jones and McNairy are perhaps director Gareth Edwards’ preferred choices. McNairy starred in Edwards’ previous monster epic MONSTERS.
As an absolute GODZILLA fanatic, I can’t wait to see where this reboot takes us. By the time of its release it will be a long and lonely 10 years since Godzilla graced our screens in GODZILLA: FINAL WARS, and 60 years since his first appearance. Word is that we’ll be seeing a very realistic interpretation of GODZILLA, so perhaps we wont be seeing his chums Mothra (complete with tiny singing twins) and space dragon King Ghidorah just yet, but there’s always room for a sequel.
GODZILLA returns to screens on 16th May 2014. But if you can’t wait that long for your kaiju filled destructive flicks, then catch PACIFIC RIM this summer.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
