Paul Thomas Anderson has received a huge amount of acclaim for his film THE MASTER this year, but now he seems set to move on to his next project which will be an adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel, ‘Inherent Vice’. The film has been in development since 2010 now and has had Robert Downey Jr. attached from the get go, but PTA decided to make THE MASTER first so there’s been very little development on it since then. Back in September however, it was reported that the film was back on and now it seems like they might be close to adding another name to the cast.
Charlize Theron has had somewhat of a comeback over the last few years with big films like YOUNG ADULT and PROMETHEUS under her belt, and now she is apparently close to joining this project which is being described as a trippy film noir. The plot revolves around a stoner detective called Don Sportello (Downey Jr.) who is asked by his ex-girlfriend to look into the kidnapping of her new billionaire boyfriend. It is not reported who Theron will be playing, but it could likely be the ex-girlfriend that sets the plot in motion. I was very excited when I first heard about this film a couple of years ago, and I think Theron would be a great fit if it is indeed that role she is going for.
