Dominic Cooper will play Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, in a new four part series for Sky Atlantic.
The show will focus on Fleming’s youthful days spent in the navy and will no doubt explore the roots of his greatest creation. Some might argue that Cooper is a likely candidate to play the gentleman spy somewhere down the line, whereas some would consider that borderline blasphemy. His casting here at least suggests that he’s on Eon’s radar, and given another ten years, he may gruff up enough to fill the tux. But first, we’ll have to see how he does in this new dramatisation with the tentative title of, brace yourself, ‘Fleming.’
It’s unlikely that this project will relate to the proposed cinematic Ian Fleming biopic which allegedly has Duncan Jones (SOURCE CODE, MOON) attached to direct (more details on that here). Though it would be interesting to see Cooper’s portrayal graduate from the small-to-silver screen. We’ll keep you posted.
