David Fincher To Direct ‘Gone Girl’?

David Fincher

After his most recent box office success with the 2011 hit THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, David Fincher is rumoured to direct the big screen adaptation of another popular book — Gillian Flynn’s GONE GIRL.

Flynn’s novel — which spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold more than two million copies thus far — is a thriller revolving around a woman who disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary.

After Fox outbid Universal last summer for the film rights to GONE GIRL, the studio appears to have finally settled on Fincher as the man in charge. Little else is known about the production, including casting decisions and an expected start date.

Fincher has been courting other film options from various studios as he waits for his DRAGON TATTOO screenwriter Steve Zaillian to complete the script for the sequel, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE.

All that remains to be seen is which book adaptation makes its big screen debut first.
