Ron Howard To Tackle ‘The Graveyard Book’

Ron Howard is currently in talks to team up with Disney for a live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s book The Graveyard Book. The project was in development for a while as a stop-motion film that was going to be directed by Henry Selick (THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, CORALINE); however that was put on hold and it now looks to be resurrected as a live-action film instead. The synopsis is as follows:

The book follows a boy named Nobody Owens who is raised by ghosts in a cemetery after his family is murdered. Once he becomes a teenager, he is pursued again by his family’s killer, a being called “the Man Jack.”

Neil Gaiman’s stories are usually great and ripe for cinematic adaptation, and this project sounds brilliant. I’m maybe a tad worried about Howard’s involvement though as he’s always been more miss than hit for me. The last time he adapted a children’s book we got the pretty woeful HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, so here’s hoping that this will turn out better.
