Bond Beats Batman As ‘Skyfall’ Continues Box Office Success

Skyfall

Ever wondered who’d win in a fight between James Bond and Batman? That’s right: Batman, obviously. But in box office terms, it seems the Caped Crusader will have to sit and have a good, hard think about how SKYFALL has managed to surpass THE DARK KNIGHT RISES to become the seventh-highest grossing film of all time. Because that’s exactly what’s happened with 007’s latest release finally opening to the Chinese market on 21st January.

SKYFALL has now earned a whopping $1.094 billion at the worldwide box office, while THE DARK KNIGHT RISES trails behind at $1.081 billion. Shame on you, Master Wayne. Still, it’s not really a surprise that SKYFALL is continuing to do so well, breaking plenty of box office records in the UK, with some cinemas still showing it months and months after release. Also because it’s bloody brilliant.

‘But if it’s only seventh-best,’ we hear you cry, ‘what’s beating it?! Surely nothing can top the spy who loved me while he’s on Her Majesty’s secret service showing those dastardly villains that although the world is not enough they’ll need more than a licence to kill to outsmart him? And his, er, goldfinger?’

Well, if it’ll shut you all up with those bloody awful puns, here’s the other six films currently ahead of SKYFALL on the we-made-lots-of-money list:

1. AVATAR ($2.782 billion)
2. TITANIC ($2.185 billion)
3. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE ($1.511 billion)
4. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2 ($1.328 billion)
5. TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON ($1.123 billion)
6. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING ($1.119 billion)

Though how some flashy robots and a specky kid beat THE LORD OF THE RINGS we’ll never know.

SKYFALL is due for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 18th February 2013.
