Royal Albert Hall To Screen ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ With Live Orchestra!

One of London’s most iconic venues is set to screen SINGIN IN THE RAIN but with a very special addition. On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th March 2013, the MGM classic and one of the world’s most adored musicals comes to the Royal Albert Hall for a European premiere. The tremendous original 1952 American Musical, SINGIN IN THE RAIN, will be presented on a large screen within the magical setting of the Royal Albert Hall, with the legendary soundtrack brought to life on stage by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Neil Thomson, as part of its 60th birthday celebrations.

The classic that stars Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds, offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood, with the three stars portraying performers caught up in the transition from silent films to “talkies”. You’ll be able to enjoy classics such as Broadway Rhythm, Should I?, Make ‘Em Laugh and of course Singin’ In The Rain while this stunning film is shown on the big screen. Jasper Hope, Chief Operating Officer at the Royal Albert Hall, said:

“We are delighted to present the European premiere of this much loved classic at the Royal Albert Hall.  It was brilliant 60 years ago and it’s still brilliant today but for the first time audiences will be able to experience this iconic movie in an entirely new format. These screenings, featuring live orchestral accompaniment by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, of some of the most memorable musical songs ever made is another film and live orchestra first for the world’s most famous stage and we’re very excited to be able to share it with fans of one of the greatest films ever made.”

The film is frequently described as one of the best movies ever made, topping the American Film Institute’s ‘100 Years of Musicals’ list and ranking fifth in its updated list of the greatest American films ever made, testament to the relevance that the film still has on audiences 60 years later.

SINGIN IN THE RAIN is the latest film to be announced with a live orchestra as part of a unique cinematic experience at the Royal Albert Hall. Over 50,000 people have now enjoyed sold out performances at the Hall of THE LORD OF THE RINGS (TRILOGY), THE MATRIX, the 50th Anniversary of WEST SIDE STORY, and the upcoming Disney’s FANTASIA in late 2013 and we have news of that coming up shortly!
