Rupert Grint is to star in the pilot for new comedy, SUPER CLYDE.
Grint is, of course, best known for playing Ron Weasley, the faithful best friend of Harry Potter and has become one of the most famous faces in the world. Despite his megastardom, Grint has chosen to work on smaller projects since the franchise ended in 2011.
SUPER CLYDE is one of two upcoming comedy pilots for CBS from Greg Garcia, who is best known for devising the superb (and under rated) MY NAME IS EARL. While there are few details about his other project (its a family comedy), SUPER CLYDE has a very clear, if somewhat familiar plot;
‘Grint will play the title role of Clyde, the well-meaning and sweet yet slightly neurotic guy who never feels like he really fits in. The avid comic book reader considers himself a borderline agoraphobic with mild to severe anxiety issues who wishes he were a super hero himself. When Clyde inherits a $100,000 a month inheritance from his long-dead eccentric Uncle Bill, he decides that the cash will be his secret super power and will use it only for good and reward the good-hearted.’
So pretty darn similar to feature films such as SUPER with Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, DEFENDOR starring Woody Harrelson and, of course, KICK ASS (and its upcoming sequel) which made stars out of Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz. If the show is picked up, this could be the role that helps Grint step out of Potter’s shadow and become the leading man we all want him to be. Because he’s lovely, isn’t he.
We will next see Rupert Grint in THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN alongside Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood as well as POSTMAN PAT – THE MOVIE 3D: YOU KNOW YOU’RE THE ONE. That’s it’s real name, by the way.
