Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Close To Casting Drax The Destroyer With…

Jason-Momoa

With Chris Pratt now officially onboard as the lead of Peter Quill/Star Lord in Marvel’s Phase II adventure, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, we now have news on another supporting cast member currently in negotiations and very close to a deal.

The hulking Jason Momoa, know for his roles in GAME OF THRONES, (a disappointing) CONAN THE BARBARIAN reboot and can currently be seen in Walter Hill’s action-thriller, BULLET TO THE HEAD opposite Sly Stallone, is in line for the role of Drax The Destroyer. He’s said to have beat off competition from Isiah Mustafa, David Bautista and Brian Patrick.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will prove to be Marvel Studios’ most riskiest project yet. It doesn’t have the iconic stature of there most prominent superheroes but maybe a bit of originality is needed after more then a decade of countless comic-book sequels and retreads. Putting it in the hands of relative indie writer and director James Gunn certainly shows they’re willing to take those risks, with his previous work definitely being fun.

A couple of other characters from the comic-book, namely Rocket Raccoon and Groot, are being created using a mix of CGI and motion-capture. Last we heard, Marvel were looking at Adam Sandler and/or Jim Carrey for those load-mouthed favourites. However, nothing has yet been confirmed but as always, we’ll keep you posted. The film is slated for cinemas 1st August 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
