Surprise! ‘A Good Day To Die Hard’ Tops The UK Box-Office

AGDTDH QUAD.jpg

The fifth installment in the DIE HARD franchise A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD continues its success. After (just) topping the US ‘holiday’ weekend (it just beat off still competition from the comedy IDENTITY THIEF), the Bruce Willis starrer has landed the top spot in the UK taking a very good indeed £4.9m since it opened last Thursday (14th Feb). The action movie, which has opened to terrible reviews nearly everywhere, de-throned previous number one WRECK-IT-RALPH, which managed a still-respectable £3.4m in its second week out there.

To put DIE HARD 5’s performance into context, it took about the same as DIE HARD 4.0, which bagged £5m in its opening week, but that was a five day opening rather than A Good Day’s 4.

At three this week was Judd Apatow’s KNOCKED UP spin-off THIS IS 40, which nabbed £1.9m in box-office receipts. LES MISERABLES hung on to four with a further £1.1m in cash with new release BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, which also banked £1.1 over the weekend.

Here’s how the rest fared. We’re still awaiting exact  figures for the rest of the top ten, but sources say this is the final table for the four days from Feb 14th – 17th (UK and Ireland).

1. A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD2. WRECK-IT-RALPH
3. THIS IS 40
4. LES MISERABLES
5. BEAUTIFUL CREATURES
6. I GIVE IT A YEAR
7. FLIGHT
8. LIFE OF PI
9. LINCOLN
10. DJANGO UNCHAINED
