Paul W.S. Anderson’s ‘Pompeii’ Lands A ‘Sucker Punch’ Star

Sucker Punch

Love him or loath him, director Paul W.S. Anderson seems to pack them in at the multiplexes. A lot of that has to do with his appeal to the teen crowd with his crass video-game adaptations, which more often than not, induce migraines. Also, anyone with a wife as hot as Milla Jovovich would proudly pimp her out on the big-screen in skin-hugging leather too. However, Anderson’s next project will be a wholly original affair as he’s bringing us, period disaster epic, POMPEII.

GAME OF THRONES star Kit Harrington is already confirmed as the lead role of Milo, the slave of a shipping tycoon, with dreams of buying his freedom and marrying his master’s daughter. However, he discovers she’s already promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he’s about to be sold to another owner. All this ‘romantic drama’ will be played out during the infamous volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius, as Harrington’s hero escapes to rescue his beloved from the doomed city of the title.

We can now confirm, SUCKER PUNCH and SLEEPING BEAUTY’s waif-like Aussie stunner, Emily Browning, has signed on as Harrington’s love-interest.

The project has a script written by Janet Scott and Lee Batchler, that was also worked on by Michael Robert Johnson and DOWNTON ABBEY creator, Julian Fellowes. It’s currently in pre-production and is expected to shoot in the summer for a release sometime in 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
